Paul and Chrystal Clas have been involved in the care and presentation of Show dogs most of their lives. Paul's mother raised Poodles and Bichon Frises while Chrystals mother terriers in addition to poodles. Paul competed at his first AKC dog show at the age of 5. Over the years the sport became a major hobby. Paul learned about grooming and keeping dogs in top condition. He also learned how to train dogs and address behavior issues. Paul's hobby became a business in his early 20s. Clients began hiring Paul as a professional handler to show their dogs at shows. Chrystal began showing dogs at the age of 12 also learning to groom train and condition the dogs in her care. This hobby became a business for her as well.
Today Paul and Chrystal enjoy a great reputation for not only winning in the ring but also providing a happy comfortable environment for their client's show dogs. Paul is currently the Vice President of the Carroll Kennel Club in Westminster Maryland. He is also a member of the Professional Handlers Association. Sometimes you will see Paul or Chrystal competing at several televised shows such as Westminster Kennel Club on USA Network and the National Dog Show on NBC Thanksgiving Day.
Paul bought Happy Hound Hotel in May of 2011 to expand his services. He renamed it Lakeside Pet Resort not only because its near Codorus, but to signal a new beginning. Chrystal married Paul and joined the business in 2014 after moving to Hanover from Canada. Both Paul and Chrystal enjoy applying their talents to the pet care industry. They also enjoy the dogs they meet. Many clients come to Paul and Chrystal with dogs that require special care. They have helped timid dogs become more confident. They have also helped owners deal with aggressive and out of control behavior. Whether grooming, boarding or training a dog, Paul and Chrystal are very patient. Dogs in their care become buddies and look forward to visiting them.
Paul grew up in Maryland while Chrystal grew up near Toronto Ontario. When not on the road attending dog shows with his mother and sister, he was working with his father on the family's dairy farm in Sykesville MD. Paul is no stranger to Hanover. Several of his clients are from the area. He also has many friends in the area making Hanover a regular destination through the years. He attends the Keystone Portuguese Water Dog water trials at Codorus park and enjoys Hanover's rural feel.
